When Lash & Brow Services Are NOT Appropriate

ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS

(Treatment will be postponed or denied)

  • Active eye infections: conjunctivitis (“pink eye”), styes, blepharitis
  • Open wounds, abrasions, or active dermatitis in the treatment area
  • Recent eye surgery or LASIK within 6–12 weeks (unless medically cleared)
  • Severe seasonal allergies with excessive tearing or rubbing
  • Known allergy to tint, oxidative color, perming solutions, or keratin formulas
  • Recent use of retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, or benzoyl peroxide on brows (for tint/lamination)
  • Waxing, dermaplaning, chemical peels, or laser treatments in the eye/brow area within the past 5–7 days
  • Lash extensions removed within the last 48–72 hours (lashes must rest)
  • Active sunburn or compromised skin barrier around eyes/brows
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Inability to keep the eyes closed comfortably (lash services)

  • Chronic eye conditions: dry eye syndrome, chronic irritation, blepharitis history
  • Rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis around eye/brow area
  • Use of photosensitizing medications
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding 
  • Recent lash lift or brow lamination (timing must be regulated)
  • History of allergic reactions to dye or perming solutions
  • Contacts must be removed prior to lash services
  • Freshly exfoliated or sensitized skin can alter tint results
  • Lash serums may cause irritation or faster processing times
  • Spray-tan/self-tanner on brows may distort tint color
  • Client must arrive with clean lashes and brows, free of makeup, oils, SPF, or mascara

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

  • Discontinue exfoliating or sensitizing products around the eyes and brows 7 days prior, including retinoids/retinol, AHA/BHA acids, benzoyl peroxide, acne treatments, scrubs, harsh brushes, and at-home dermaplaning tools.
  • Stop using waterproof mascara and lash curlers 7 days prior, and avoid waxing, threading, tweezing, depilatories, spray tans, self-tanner, and excessive sun exposure or sunburn in the brow or eye area.
  • Avoid heavy sun exposure, heat-based treatments, and anything that causes irritation or sensitivity around the eyes and brows 5–7 days prior, and pause lash serums if they cause redness.
  • Avoid steam rooms, saunas, hot yoga, intense sweating, and facials with steam, exfoliation, or chemical resurfacing 24–48 hours prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid oil-based skincare products, mascara, brow makeup, lash curlers, brow gels, or anything that coats the lashes or brows 24–48 hours prior.
  • A patch test is recommended anytime before your appointment if you have sensitive skin or a history of reactions.

Day of Appointment

ARRIVE WITH

  • Clean, makeup-free lashes and brows
  • No mascara, brow gel, skincare, SPF, or oils on the treatment area
  • Contact lenses removed (for lash services)

INFORM YOUR ESTHETICIAN OF

  • Any newly prescribed medications
  • Recent illness, allergies, or active eye symptoms
  • Any sensitivities or changes in skincare routine

What to Expect

  • Mild, temporary eye watering or slight redness
  • Lashes may feel firm or “set” after a lift
  • Brows or lashes may appear darker immediately after tinting
  • Brow tint may stain the skin initially but softens over 24–48 hours

The First 24–48 Hours

DO NOT:

  • Get lashes or brows wet
  • Expose the area to steam, sweat, or heat
  • Use mascara (especially waterproof)
  • Rub, touch, or apply pressure to eyes/brows
  • Sleep face-down
  • Use oil-based products, cleansers, or makeup removers
  • Apply makeup to the eye or brow area

DO:

  • Keep the treated area completely dry
  • Be gentle—avoid friction or pressure

After 48 Hours

  • You may resume regular cleansing
  • Use non-waterproof mascara if desired
  • Avoid heavy oils around lashes/brows for improved longevity
  • Continue nourishing serum to maintain lash/brow health
