How Microneedling Works

Microneedling, also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI), stimulates the skin’s natural healing response through controlled micro-injury. The Exceed BioTouch Precision Device creates uniform channels within the papillary dermis, triggering the release of growth factors and promoting new collagen and elastin production.

Contraindications for Microneedling

Microneedling is NOT appropriate for clients with the following conditions:

ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS

(Treatment will be postponed or denied)

Active acne with inflamed pustules or cysts in the treatment area
Active cold sores, shingles, or other herpes simplex infections
Active bacterial, viral, or fungal infections on the skin
Open wounds, cuts, abrasions, or broken skin
Current use of isotretinoin (Accutane®) within the past 6–12 months
Recent facial radiation therapy
History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
Uncontrolled diabetes
Hemophilia or other bleeding disorders
Active eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, or rosacea flare in the treatment area
Pregnancy or breastfeeding (varies by provider and device; often restricted)
Autoimmune disorders that impair wound healing
Use of blood-thinning medications (unless cleared by a physician)
Recent Botox® or dermal filler injections within the last 2 weeks

Recommended Treatment Frequency

Series for Best Results:

Most clients achieve optimal results after a series of 3–6 treatments, spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, depending on skin condition and desired outcome.

Maintenance Treatments:

To preserve collagen stimulation and maintain long-term results, we recommend 1–2 maintenance sessions per year.

Acne Scar Revision:

Clients with moderate to deep acne scarring may benefit from 4–6 treatments, with visible improvement typically noted after the third session.

Aging and Fine Lines:

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

To ensure your skin is in the ideal condition for microneedling, please follow these pre-treatment recommendations:
Avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), beta hydroxy acids (BHA), and exfoliating enzymes for 3–5 days prior to your appointment.
Discontinue tanning, self-tanner, or prolonged sun exposure for at least one week before treatment.
Do not schedule chemical peels, waxing, or laser treatments on the treated area for at least 7–10 days prior.
Inform your professional if you have any recent acne breakouts, cold sores, or open wounds.
Hydrate well and arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, sunscreen, or lotion.
If you are prone to cold sores (HSV-1), an antiviral prophylaxis may be recommended prior to treatment.
Do not tan prior or after treatment.
You should not eat 2 hours before and 1 hour after treatment.

Avoid retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and exfoliants for 5–7 days.
Protect the skin from UV exposure using broad-spectrum SPF 30

Any light flaking or dryness is part of the renewal process—do not pick or exfoliate.
Resume regular skincare gradually as advised by your provider.
Maintain hydration and avoid excessive sweating, saunas, or swimming for one week post-treatment.
